I-64 Fort Hill Bridge lane closures & detours (Charleston)

24/07/2025

Charleston — I-64 Fort Hill Bridge: WVDOH crews are closing the eastbound middle and fast lanes during nighttime work to support inspections and deck repairs. The closures are part of an ongoing plan to prevent potholes and extend the life of the deck ahead of a full redecking project scheduled for 2027.

What to know

  • Work is scheduled overnight to reduce daytime congestion.
  • Crews have been performing preventative patching after several deck holes were identified.
  • Some lanes may reopen temporarily for rush hour, then close again to pour and cure concrete.

Suggested detours (passenger vehicles)

  • From I-77 NB toward Charleston: exit 95 (WV-61/MacCorkle Ave) → South Charleston → reenter I-64 WB at Exit 56 (Montrose Dr).
  • From I-77 SB north of Charleston: use Edens Fork (Exit 106) to Sissonville Dr → US-25; or Exit 58C (Washington St) to US-119 (Penn Ave) → Kanawha Blvd; or Exit 58C to US-60 → WV-25.

Plan your drive

  • Check live cameras on the Kanawha County page before you head out: /county/kanawha.
  • Expect slower speeds near the bridge and allow extra time when rain or overnight temperatures are in the forecast.
